Birth Affirmations

Birth Affirmations

Words of affirmation, encouragement and validation can be extremely impactful to someone going through this intimate, vulnerable marathon we call birth.

There are different motives, themes and approaches when it comes to "birth affirmations."

Here are some examples:

  • Speaking to the strength of your body - "These contractions cannot be stronger than me because they are me. My body creates each wave, one at a time."
  • Promoting connection and love - "All the birthing people who have ever came before me are lifting me up. I am loved, safe and supported."
  • Encouraging patience, focus and sustainability - "I can do anything for a minute. I focus on this one moment, right here, right now."

What resonates with you? It's helpful to think about this ahead of time, communicate it to your birth team, have certain affirmation cards prepared or mark which affirmations in a list resonate most with you. Your partner or doula could record affirmations too, speaking softly and slowly, that you can listen to during any part of your labor.

Below is a list of birth affirmations to get you started. Feel free to add your own!
